CHAGALL-MALEVICH Opens at the Music Hall and Town Center June 19; Lead Actress in Person.

The artistic and political revolution of early 20th century Russia is mythologized in CHAGALL-MALEVICH, a magical period drama about the uneasy relationship between two artistic geniuses that we’re opening the Music Hall and Town Center on Friday, June 19. Lead actress Kristina Schneidermann will participate in Q&A’s after the 7:15 PM screenings Friday, June 19 at the Town Center and Saturday, June 20 at the Music Hall.

Inspired by the memoirs of Marc Chagall and those of his contemporaries, the film blends fact and folklore to evoke the return of the iconic Jewish artist (portrayed by Leonid Bichevin, “Cargo 200”) to his childhood home of Vitebsk. Having left behind immense success in Paris, Chagall returns to the Russian empire in 1917 hoping to marry the love of his life, Bella Rosenfeld (Kristina Schneidermann); he produces copious paintings and establishes the Academy of Modern Art. A rivalry develops with abstract painter Kazimir Malevich (Anatoliy Belyy), invited to teach at the art school. As Bella rekindles a childhood friendship with military Red Commissar Naum (Semeon Shkalikov), Chagall competes for the affections of his muse and future wife. As the October Revolution sweeps across Russia, historical events intrude on personal struggles and upend the quiet provincial life in Vitebsk.

Expert Panel Discussion Following Friday Evening’s Screening of EVERY LAST CHILD at the Music Hall

EVERY LAST CHILD is the dramatic story of five people impacted by the current polio crisis in Pakistan. Taking place on the front line of the fight against the disease, it is a story of sacrifice, fearless determination and sorrow in the face of mistrust, cynicism and violence.

The Los Angeles World Affairs Council will conduct a panel discussion following the 7:20 PM screening at the Music Hall on Friday, June 12. Participants include Danielle Perissi, Head of Documentary, Image Nation Abu Dhabi and Executive Producer of EVERY LAST CHILD; Peter L. Salk, MD, President of the Jonas Salk Legacy Foundation; and Gitanjli Arora, MD, Co-Director of the Global Health Education Programs at the UCLA Center for World Health. The discussion will be moderated by Sandra de Castro Buffington, Founding Director of the Global Media Center for Social Impact.

Acclaimed Australian film CHARLIE’S COUNTRY Opens this Weekend. Director in Attendance for Q&A’s.

Living in a remote Aboriginal community in Australia, Charlie is a warrior past his prime. As the government increases its stranglehold over the community’s traditional way of life, Charlie feels lost between two cultures. His modern life offers him a way to survive but, ultimately, feeling helpless. Finally fed up when his gun, spear and his best friend’s jeep are confiscated, Charlie heads into the wild on his own, to live the old way.

CHARLIE’S COUNTRY director Rolf de Heer will participate in Q&A’s after the 7:30 PM screenings at the Music Hall on Friday and Saturday, June 12 and 13. Chris Schwartz, manager of the AFI Conservatory, will serve as moderator.

ONE CUT, ONE LIFE Q&A with Filmmakers Opening Night at the Music Hall

When seminal documentary filmmaker Ed Pincus, considered the father of first-person nonfiction film, was diagnosed with a terminal illness, he and his collaborator Lucia Small teamed up to make one last film. One Cut, One Life is an intense, unflinchingly honest, and sometimes humorous exploration of the human condition that invites the viewer to contemplate what is important, not only at the end of life, but through all phases of live and creative pursuits.

We open One Cut, One Life at the Music Hall on Friday, June 12. Co-director Lucia Small and executive producer Neal Baer will participate in a Q&A after the 7:20 PM screening that night.

UNCERTAIN TERMS Filmmakers in Person at the Music Hall this Weekend

We’ll be opening UNCERTAIN TERMS, the terrific new film from rising American independent director Nathan Silver this Friday at the Music Hall. The story follows Robbie (David Dahlbom), who, after catching his wife with another guy, flees Brooklyn for the countryside to stay with his neurotic aunt. She runs a home for pregnant teenagers and as the only man in the house, Robbie inadvertently becomes the object of the girls’ attention… and affection. He eventually meets Nina, (India Menuez) who is mature beyond her age and struggling with relationship troubles of her own. The more Robbie and Nina get to know each other, the more “complicated” their friendship becomes. In his Village Voice review, Alan Scherstuhl described UNCERTAIN TERMS as “brisk, brief, well acted, smartly crafted, and shrewdly judged…[the director] does nothing less than put on the screen life as it’s lived.”

UNCERTAIN TERMS writer-producer Chloe Domont and producer Josh Mandel will introduce the 10 PM screenings at the Music Hall on Friday and Saturday, June 5 and 6.

Laemmle Theatres & EAT|SEE|HEAR Join Forces for THROWBACK THURSDAY Film Series

New #TBT Throwback Thursday Series Kicks Off with “Swimming With Sharks” on Thursday, June 4 at Laemmle’s Playhouse 7 Theatre in Pasadena. Get your tickets now!

Opening Night, Every Attendee Will Have a Chance to Win a Pair of Tickets to any upcoming Laemmle film plus a free large popcorn and drink.

Eat|See|Hear, L.A.’s premier outdoor movie, food truck and live music event series, and Laemmle Theaters today announced the first eight movies of their 2015 Throwback Thursday (#TBT) schedule featuring an offbeat mix of older nostalgic and cult films.  #TBT runs every single Thursday night beginning June 4th through 2016 at rotating Laemmle Theaters across Los Angeles.

Each night will feature a themed FOOD TRUCK for patrons to grab dinner and a movie!  For instance, a truck serving French cuisine (frog legs) may accompany a screening of The Triplets of Belleville.  All movie-goers (not just those attending Throwback Thursday) will be allowed to bring food truck items inside the venue.

With respect to the “Hear” aspect, patrons will relax inside the auditorium to playlists specifically curated for each event as they wait for the program to start. What’s more, on certain occasions, celebrities connected to the film will be on hand to make a special presentation or stay afterward for a Q&A.

Sharon Sperber, Executive Producer at Eat|See|Hear says, “We have partnered with Laemmle Theatres on a variety of events over the last number of years so it was a natural fit for us to join forces to create a regular weekly series designed to show movies we want to see again on the big screen and think everyone else should check out the experience in a theater environment, too.”

Greg Laemmle, President of Laemmle Theatres, concurs: “Working with Eat|See|Hear on Throwback Thursdays allows us to create innovative, event-style programming for our various communities.  In addition, it gives movie buffs a chance to experience theatrically a great selection of eclectic titles that don’t typically get shown on the repertory circuit.  And there’s going to be great food – so what’s not to love?”

Plans for the series include films that have connections to upcoming major releases, such as WESTWORLD in honor of the upcoming Jurassic World and the cult movie SHOWGIRLS timed with the release of Magic Mike XXL. There will also be monthly themes such as “Summer/Beach Movies,” “Back to School,” “Music Films” (not to be confused with Musicals) and a Gangster series featuring such movies as GOODFELLAS and MARRIED TO THE MOB.
