Laemmle at the Ojai Film Festival

October 23, 2013 by Lamb L.

Join us at The Ojai Film Festival starting November 7 and running through the 14th as we present the fantastic, award-winning Israeli film FILL THE VOID from RAMA BURSHTEIN.

The always-compelling festival situated in the charming, artistic enclave of Ojai, CA features independent narrative features and shorts, documentaries and animation from around the world. There will also be workshops for actors on audition technique; one for make-up artists; another for screenwriters on pitching scripts; and a half-day educational program for high school students.

Laemmle Theatres President GREG LAEMMLE is a long-time fan of the festival. He will be on-hand November 9 to present a special Saturday night, 8pm prime-time screening of FILL THE VOID.

“Ojai is a hidden gem of Southern California,” he says, “and we love what they are doing. I try to find a film that fits the program and where it’s possible to bring in the film’s creative  team.”

For full festival line-up and information visit www.ojaifilmfestival.com.

“The Sting” – Outdoor Screening and Casino Night

October 2, 2013 by Lamb L.

Laemmle continues its partnership with the Santa Monica Pier — this time as part of their Front Porch Cinema series. Free to the public, Front Porch translates to big-screen, outdoor fun during the dog days of summer. Over at the Laemmle booth, we’ll be entering people to win free movie tickets and giving away samples of our signature popcorn. What’s not to like? Some may even begin warming up for the first event, getting in the mood by reading more here about how gambling works before heading to the tables to follow the first movie.

So come down to the Pier and join us for the next three Fridays, starting this Friday, Oct. 4 with the 1973 Academy winner for Best Picture, The Sting. Directed by George Roy Hill and starring Redford and Newman at the height of their powers, this classic comedy caper set in the 1930s never fails to delight. The film screens at 7:30 pm but come early as the folks at the Pier have invited us all to try our hand at the gaming tables with Casino Night. Doors open at 6 pm.

Just remember to get some practice in with www.omi88.com casino to ensure your chances of winning are high! Those looking for casino sites to play on in the UK should also look into the available casino bonuses that they can make use of so that they can get an extra profit from their money. Sites like this (www.casino-bonus.me.uk) list the top casino bonuses right now.

There are no doubts about it, online casinos have soared in popularity over the past few years. In fact, thanks to the development of gambling websites and apps, gamblers can now get their gaming fix from anywhere in the world provided that they have a smartphone or a computer, and an internet connection. Moreover, thanks to the development of online safety tools, online casinos are now much safer than they used to be. As long as gamblers are careful to only use a Trusted website to play slot machines and other casino games, there are very few risks associated with online gambling.

What are some of your favorite casino games? Do you prefer land-based casinos or online gambling websites? Let us know your thoughts.

In terms of films though, that is not all. The series continues the following Friday, October 11 with the inimitable PEANUTS classic, Snoopy Come Home, as part of the the Pier’s official Doggie Drive-In Night (treats and water bowls provided!).

The concluding event features the eco-documentary, Chasing Ice, which chronicles the attempts of photographer James Balog to visually depict the effects of climate change on the Arctic glaciers. A subject very much appropriate to the Pier setting and a must-see for anyone concerned about the environment.

MY FATHER AND THE MAN IN BLACK: Live Concert + Q and A

August 26, 2013 by Lamb L.

LIVE CONCERT, FILMMAKER-HOSTED SCREENING AND Q&A at the Music Hall for MY FATHER AND THE MAN IN BLACK, Friday, September 6th before and the 7:15 show.

MY FATHER AND THE MAN IN BLACK

Join award-winning filmmaker Jonathan Holiff for an intimate Q&A this month–the 10th anniversary of the passing of the legendary Johnny Cash! See why this film has played 30 film festivals, in 15 countries, winning 8 competitions–and discover why it is not just a “Johnny Cash film” but a personal memoir that every father and son should see!

Before the screening, beginning at 6:30 PM, The Mighty Cash Cats will perform their Tribute to Johnny Cash with June Carter that the Salt Lake City Tribune described as being “As close as you can get to the real thing.”

The Mighty Cash Cats

The Mighty Cash Cats have toured from L.A. to Las Vegas, Ireland to Israel. Their show covers six decades of Cash’s career including fun Johnny Cash and June Carter duets.  The L.A. Weekly wrote “Michael J. embodies Johnny Cash.”  A Jerusalem Post review stated that “If the audience closed their eyes during Michael J’s show they, no doubt, thought that the country-rockabilly crooner, Johnny Cash, had managed to find his way back to the terrestrial bandstand.” And the Los Angeles Music Connection wrote “Michael J. Smith leads the performance playing a black acoustic guitar. It is impossible not to be drawn to the bass texture of his voice–and his physical and aural resemblance to Johnny Cash is practically eerie.”
