Q&A’s with BIG BOYS GONE BANANAS filmmakers and subjects in Pasadena and Santa Monica

by

Q&A's with BIG BOYS GONE BANANAS filmmakers and subjects in Pasadena and Santa MonicaQ&A’s with the filmmakers and subjects of BIG BOYS GONE BANANAS!* along special guests this weekend.

What is a big corporation capable of in order to protect its brand? Swedish filmmaker Fredrik Gertten’s experienced this recently. His previous film BANANAS!* (2009) recounts the lawsuit that 12 Nicaraguan plantation workers brought against the fruit giant Dole Food Company.

What follows is an unparalleled thriller that has Gertten capturing the entire process – from DOLE attacking the producers with a defamation lawsuit, bullying scaretactics, to media-control and PR-spin. This personal film reveals precisely how a multinational will stop at nothing to get its way.

[UPDATED] Regarding inquiries about the This American Life film, SLEEPWALK WITH ME

by

UPDATE (7/24): SLEEPWALK WITH ME has been tentatively booked at the Claremont, NoHo 7 and Playhouse 7 for 9/14.

Without consulting with us or offering us a chance to bid, the distributor of the film chose to assign the exhibition rights to the film to the Nuart Theatre in West L.A. This decision meant that the distributor had to accept the “clearance” policies claimed by the Nuart and its operator, Landmark Theatres, which include the requirement that the theatre have exclusive Los Angeles County rights to show the film. Since the film will be playing at the Nuart for two weeks beginning on 8/31, the earliest we could exhibit the film in any of our theaters is 9/14. No determination as yet as to whether or not the film will be doing enough business to warrant continued exhibition after the exclusive period at the Nuart.

We will see.

by

Q&A with FAREWELL, MY QUEEN actress Diane Kruger this Friday in West Los AngelesMeet Diane Kruger in a rare Q&A appearance after the 7 PM showing of FAREWELL, MY QUEEN at the Royal Theatre on July 13.

FAREWELL, MY QUEEN marks the return of acclaimed director Benoit Jacquot (A Single Girl, Seventh Heaven, Sade, Deep in the Woods) and brilliantly captures the passions, debauchery, occasional glimpses of nobility and ultimately the chaos that engulfed the court of Marie Antoinette in the final days before the full-scale outbreak of the Revolution. Based on the best-selling novel by Chantal Thomas.
